
SPC Benjamin A. Smith
SPC Benjamin A. Smith, 21, from Hudson, Wisconsin, was a proud member of the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. As a soldier in one of the most respected units in the U.S. Army, SPC Smith dedicated himself to serving his country with honor and integrity.
On November 2, 2005, while on a combat mission in Baghdad, Iraq, SPC Smith made the ultimate sacrifice when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near his Humvee. He was killed in action alongside fellow soldiers SPC Joshua J. Munger and PFC Tyler R. MacKenzie, who also tragically lost their lives in the attack.
SPC Smith’s bravery in the face of danger and his unwavering commitment to his fellow soldiers exemplified the highest standards of military service. His courage under fire, his sense of duty, and his willingness to put others before himself will forever be remembered. SPC Smith was not only a dedicated soldier but also a beloved son, brother, and friend, whose loss is deeply felt by all who knew him.
